In Romans 12:9-10 Paul teaches us how we should love each other and how to apply it to our lives when it says "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.'
With summer comes the heat and things are certainly heating up in South Texas! We are blessed to have the opportunity to partner with another ministry, called 45&Hope, once per month to go out to minister, feed, provide supplies and
talk to the homeless
population
living along
the I-45 corridor
in Houston.
I recently took a trip to the Big Bend area of South West Texas. My lovely wife and I loaded the bikes on the trailer and drove the 600+ miles to get there so we could ride. I absolutely fell in love with the riding and the majestic beauty of Gods creation known as Big Bend. On our third day of riding my exhaust pipe developed an issue where the mounting bracket had broken away from the pipe, leaving a gaping hole in the pipe. Needless to say this was the end of the riding for me on this trip. What I learned was regardless of how we may think we are prepared, God has other plans for us and it may not always be what we expect or what we think we need or want. In this same way, the ministry we are providing in South Texas is something that is unexpected and growing a little everyday and I give thanks to God for opening up loving hearts to assist with the ministry. This summer in Houston has been hot both in temperature and with God working in my life and Christ For Life.
It is really simple, we are told to place others above ourselves; to place needs and concerns of others above our own without self-centeredness or a what do I get out of it mentality. This is a sincere, genuine love without question, like that of a parent to a child.
By actively demonstrating God’s love to our fellow bikers, neighbors, homeless or whomever we come in contact with has a positive impact on both our life and the life of the other person. Practicing sincere love as Paul defined it is an important part of the Christian walk which differentiates us from the rest of the world. Like my bike that broke down, we frequently encounter people around us who are broken down and have real needs. This is when we can practice brotherly love.
Last month we supplied 8 volunteers and 40 hygiene packs and already this month I am receiving more inquiries into this specific ministry which is truly God working through the hearts of His believers to spread His love. Many times throughout the Bible we are taught about how to spread or share Agape or Brotherly love.
