For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Remember, you are not some random creature that happened to just stumble into your faith and have been changed from death to life for no reason whatsoever. God created you for a purpose. God has a direction for you!
You have been created and saved and changed for GOOD WORKS! In the rest of the second chapter of Ephesians Paul reminds us why we should be motivated for good works. He reminds us that we were formerly separated from Christ, living in and for the flesh and without any hope. Sound familiar? Paul also reminds us that through our repentance and acknowledgement of Christ as our Savior, we are now brought near to Christ and reconciled to God. We are no longer strangers but fellow citizens and heirs in the Kingdom of God, made righteous through the blood of the Lamb!
This is why we want to do good works! We do not do good works to get closer to God or to be saved. We do good works because we ARE close to God and we HAVE been saved! Praise be to God for our new lives and the promise of eternal life that is given to us!
This is the reason we want to help others and be there for others! We want the world to know that we have been saved, that there is hope, and that there is a love inside of us that could only be explained by something supernatural and greater than us. Jesus told his disciples at the last supper that all men will know you are My disciples if you have love for one another, John 13:35. A true disciple in Christ recognizes the grace that has been given to him and cannot wait to serve the King and to do good works in His Holy Name.
So the next time you are having that spiritual where-am-I-going moment, just remember what is driving you. Remember your motivation. Get out and help a brother or a sister. Listen to that neighbor that is hurting. Volunteer at your church. Participate in a ride to a homeless shelter or to raise money for a cause. Give a homeless person some money and do not worry about what he is going to do with it. Go pray over someone you know in the hospital. Visit a friend behind bars.
Brother or sister in Christ, you know where you are going. Rejoice in your promise of heaven and let others see the love in you and your good deeds so that they may praise your Father in Heaven and come to know the Savior!
What was I saying again?
Have you ever been distracted by something in the middle of a conversation and wondered what you were trying to say?
What in the world was I talking about?
What is even worse is when you are riding down an open stretch of road and you were so deep in thought, or perhaps so deep in no thoughts, and you forget where you were even going! Or forget what road you are on! Has this ever happened to you? Some of us may have tried to chalk it up to our past lives and dead brain cells. The fact is that our minds, if unguided or distracted, will sometimes lose their focus.
Have you ever thought about what is driving you spiritually?
What is driving me and what is my motivation?
When this happens, try reflecting on the word of God as written by the Apostle Paul in the second chapter of his letter to the Ephesians.
